Chandelier for Contemporary Elegance

Chandelier for Contemporary Elegance
Uma Chandelier Designed by Giancarlo Tintori

Say the word chandelier and most people conjure up an image of a typical glittering crystal Regency lamp. However, the chandelier has a far more modest beginning when they were little more than ironwork with wooden cross members from which candles could be impaled upon. But even then they had the image of luxury and splendour as only the wealthy could afford candles in medieval times.

Lighting experts Nemo Cassina has taken the traditional vision of a chandelier and made it into a contemporary classic with Giancarlo Tintori’s Uma. Made from a steel frame surrounded by a concentric cascade of transparent metacrylate cones (a type of acrylic glass to you and me), this modern chandelier is sure to impress.

A meter wide and 80cm high, like most other chandeliers Uma will need a room of considerable proportions in which to shine, but its florescent light will ensure that it does so with the same lustre and visual magnificent as its forebears.

Price? We’ve no idea, but given that it’s by a known Italian designer and about to shown at the Milan Design week, we’re guessing like its predecessors this chandelier is probably for the wealthy. For more information visit www.nemo.cassina.it
