Willow and Stone has been in touch to tell us about their new wooden insect hotel,
a cute house with various sections to attract different insects that I’m sure will
be a great talking point for any garden. One only hopes that it will attract a better
class of insect than the New York hotel I recently stayed in.
We also love the new Terracotta Birdball Belle Feeder, pictured on the left. Made
of slipcast clay, it holds both large and small fat balls, fruit and kitchen scraps.
Its stainless steel wire spring makes it easy to fill and prevents damage to birds’
feet and beaks that can be caused by mesh and wire.
What makes this so appealing to me is that it allows small birds such as tits, sparrows
and nuthatches to feed, whilst deterring larger birds. Most of the birds we get
in our garden are jays, pigeons (who are waging a war on our veg plot) and buzzards,
so we’re always on the look out for something to encourage the smaller birds into
our garden. Particularly in the more protected areas where they are less likely
to be preyed upon.
The Wooden Insect Hotel is priced at £22.00 and the Terracotta Birdball Belle Feeder
is £16.95, both are available from Willow and Stone. For more information visit
