Tips When Buying a Leather Sofa
Choosing the right leather sofa can make a big difference to a room

Getting the right sized leather sofa make be less costly than you think. According to John Darling of Darlings of Chelsea, customers are often surprised that the company can personalise sofa requirements typically for just an extra 10%.

Darlings of Chelsea specialise in leather sofas, leather furniture and fabric sofas in a variety of contemporary and traditional designs. Other tips John has for customers looking for a new sofa include checking where the sofa is made.

"If it's made in the UK then often delivery will be quicker and the quality of construction is better in comparison to China or other foreign countries," says John. "Also ask if any hardwood is used in the construction of the leather sofa. Beech or Birch is common in well constructed sofas."

Check too the quality of the leather being sold, if you're paying top prices expect to get good quality leather. Top Grain (the highest quality leather) uses the surface of the hide. Split grain leathers use the part of the hide that is beneath the surface.

Aniline leather is a leather that shows the natural scars and marks, semi-aniline is a more protected leather with a waxy finish making it more suitable for children and pets. Also make sure that whole covering is leather, some manufacturers use PVC in "hidden" areas.
