Students from Wolverhampton University School of Art and Design have been given the chance of a lifetime by John Lewis, when the company agreed to sell the twelve winning rugs from a design project in selected branches.
The students were originally given a brief to design a rug with a contemporary floral theme. The winning designs would then be made into a rug for the designer to keep, but John Lewis surprised the students by agreeing to take their designs from the drawing board to the shop floor.
Each rug is made to order in India from hand tufted wool and takes approximately fourteen weeks from when the order is placed. The rugs will only be available for a limited time, so they will be quite exclusive.
Nicola Gidlow, Rugs Buyer at John Lewis says, ‘This collection shows what depth of design talent we have in this country. John Lewis and our customers have always embraced new talent and we are confident that all of the new designs will perform well in the retail environment and that the designers go on to achieve great success.’
The rugs are priced at £155.00 per m2, for more information contact John Lewis, www.johnlewis.com
